THE EXCLUSIVE ELOISE ENSEMBLE
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (Juv) ()
Authors: Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight
Average review score:

This big kid adores Eloise
I read Eloise when I was about 6 or 7, 32 years ago, and I have never forgot the precocious, messy, FUN little girl I met in these books. Her life in the hotel and the pranks and tricks she pulled were so delicious! She is a very warm memory of my childhood and I recently bought her books just so I could have them to read again to my children, grandchildren and hopefully, great-grand children. Okay, okay, I admit it, I wanted them for myself! : ) They are fantastic books greatly enhanced by Hilary Knight's illustrations (who also drew for the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series) and I recommend them to any one looking for an imaginative book to share with their child.

Such FUN for "Precocious Grown Ups!"
At last! Books the I can read to my kids (ages 9 & 10) that amuse ME as well as them, and not just because the pictures are great! Even the 2 year old enjoys Eloise, and who wouldn't?

I cannot BELIEVE that my mother didn't introduce me to the joys of Eloise when I was a child, but perhaps it's best this way, when I am truly able to appreciate these wonderful books!

F-84 Thunderjet Units Over Korea (Osprey Frontline Colour 3)
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (15 July, 2000)
Authors: Warren E. Thompson and Osprey Publishing
Average review score:

Excellent!
Warren Thompson has done an excellent job both pictorally and verbally describing one of the lesser known but most effective weapons of the Korean War, The F-84 Thunderjet. I think the F-84's in Korea may have flown more sorties than any other type. I flew 55 missions in the F-84G, took one AA hit in the wing and it brought me home safely as it did many pilots. Since so many of our G models were given to NATO countries, this model which was the best of the straight wing models, can rarely be seen in a museum today in the U. S. I am buying two more books to send to both the small USAF detachment at Taegu Air Base and the 110th Korean Fighter Squadron for their history of the base which I recently visited after 48 years. ...

Excellent!
Osprey and author Warren Thompson have done it again! An excellent combination of sharp, vibrant color photos, historical narrative and personal stories makes the third in the "over Korea" series an exceptional book for any aviation or Korean War history buff.

The reader is immersed in the details of operational missions, as well as the historical context of the war, giving a unique view of the conflict.

As in the F-86 issue in the series, the type face chosen for the main text is "petite", but otherwise, I highly recommend this volume.

Faces Pressed Against The Glass: Black Folks Caught Between Chaos and the Cosmos (6 cassette Tapes)
Published in Audio Cassette by Dogon Publishing (05 January, 1998)
Authors: Kimberly Thompson, Paul Thompson, Peter Whitham, and Reginald Martin
Average review score:

Faces represents extraordinary insight into complex issues.
Paul Thompson touches sensitive issues in black and white with "Faces." The African American expereince in America is still being defined. This effort embodies the sincere reflections and insight of an African American looking backwards and forward at the same time. I think it is exceptional and the audio tapes make it convienent. Dr. Bill Adkins, Senior Pastor Greater Imani Church Memphis, Tennessee

Paul Thompson gives an unfiltered view of African-Americans.
Insightful, new angles and completely honest and unfiltered views of the current status of African-Americans, Paul Thompson's Faces Pressed Against the Glass is the first book in 30 years that gives views of African-American culture in terms not chosen by the media or the majority culture. I particularly appreciated Thompson's unique phrasing and his willingness to tackle black subjects that media-chosen black writers are frightened of. A great set of tapes that I hope will soon be in book form on all shelves.

Film History: An Introduction
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Education - Europe (01 September, 2002)
Authors: Kristin Thompson and David Bordwell
Average review score:

Comprehensive, nicely packaged
I used this book in a film studies class about four years ago and I kept it because of the wealth of information. For the first time I understood the different epochs of film not only in the U.S. but also around the world. I was introduced to a wider variety of international film and the work of Eisenstein, Renoir, Kurosawa, and others. I highly recommend this book for the concise language, easy explanations, and beautiful black and white and color reproductions from many films. This book is a page turner.

Just great
this is one of the most comprensive and clear books on film history. Just great to use it as a main reference book to college student

The Five Gates of Hell
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (September, 1991)
Authors: Rupert Thomson, Rupert Thompson, and Gary Fisketjon
Average review score:

Oddworld
Highly recommended. I have read all of Thomson's books, except "Soft", and found that his first 2 ("Dreams" and "5 Gates") are his best. What seems to work is the off-kilter realism of the characters combined with the surrealism of the setting (a coast town based on the funeral business in "5 Gates" and a town no one is allowed to leave in "Dreams") and stories. "5 Gates" is an eerie read where you always feel submerged in the dreamy water-world of Moon Beach or its surrounding deserts where things mostly move in slow motion until drawn to a quick conclusion.

if beauty were born as words
Beauty and ugliness collide with such a tremendous impact, that there are points when we are not sure which is which. Thomson illustrates this; here are two central characters; Jed, the ugly one, and Nathan, the beautiful one. The story follows each, as he is swallowed by the endless decandence of Moon Beach, a city obsessed with death, and built on an industry of funeral parlours. Each witnesses beauty and ugliness in many forms, presented in wonderful prose. Thomson has a talent for describing things in unconventional forms, while somehow never moving away from the thing in question. He solidifies emotion, and liquifies solid objects, in language that bounces and cascades. Ther supporting characters fulfill their requirements - not only do they 'support', but they add depth to the two central characters. Vasco the gang leader, Creed the mysterious head of the corporation, Harriet the Au Pair - each has their own place in Thomson's magical city. This is a decidedly blue book; anyone longing for brighter colours should look elsewhere. However, if lue is your scene, then this might very well be the shade for which you've been searching.

At least read this book, even if you don't buy it. There are few novels able to capture the imagination with such magnificent force and effect. I felt like a butterfly lost in caverns of sulphur, walls that glitter in the noxious light, I had to stay, I wanted to fly further, deeper, I had to know . . .

You definetly need this book if you plan to visit Maui !
My friends and I just returned from Maui and this book was sent from the heavens! If you are thinking of traveling to Maui or Lanai, this is the guide for you. It is very detailed and extremely helpful from where to stay, where to eat, where the best beaches are and how to get to them, to even what type of vehicle to rent so that you get the most from your vacation. I have purchased guide books in the past and have been a little disapointed on the lodging portion; but this book was very accurate and gives you plently of choices. We stayed at several that were in the book and we were thrilled! And as far as what to see or where to go while your in Maui or Lanai, this book is right on the money. It will even let you know to which locations you should pack a lunch!

Outstanding book...don't leave home without it !
This is the best, most comprehensive and accurate guide book for the Hawaiian traveler. The book is easy to read and makes planning your vacation activities a breeze. The dining guide in particular is outstanding. If your time on the island is limited, the itineraries section can be very helpful, with 1,3 or 5 day "must see" ideas. The book is reasonably priced and worth every penny !

Forging Peace: Intervention, Human Rights and the Management of Media Space
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (December, 2002)
Authors: Mark Thompson and Monroe Edwin Price
Average review score:

exceptional discussion of media intervention
Forging Peace focuses primarily on the problems of media management in conflict and post-conflict situations. More specifically it examines situations where Western democracies, the United Nations, the OSCE and even the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have attempted to transform the media sector in third party states. By examining the legal and political context of the new interest in media before, during, and after conflict, the contributors make current trends more visible and illuminate the relationship between speech and force in international affairs.
Together the contributors consider how international law is changing to encompass, reflect, and channel intervention practices. They each from various academic, legal and diplomatic perspectives look at `information intervention' through the lens of human rights principles, especially those relating to restrictions on hate speech and the right to receive and impart information. They examine the distinctions between State-authorized and rogue uses of media to incite conflict; between authorized and unauthorized incidents of information intervention; and between preventive intervention as opposed to that directed towards resolving conflict. And they test some of the justifications that are articulated for different forms of information intervention, actions that range from mere monitoring of broadcasts to the total reformulation of media laws, and ultimately the seizure or bombing of transmitters, and full-blown cyberwarfare.

Precise, Analytical, and Thoughtful
Monroe Price and Mark Thompson have assembled a fantastic array of scholars, thinkers, and lawyers who each bring to bear a unique perspective on the intractable relationship between media and conflict. From Alison DesForges's discussion about the impact of hate speech in Rwanda to former U.S. State Department official Jamie Metzl's discussion about United States actions in Somalia, Kosovo, and Serbia the book answers many interesting questions but raises many more. Of particular interest were Eric Blinderman's chapter which discussed the legal rules surrounding, what he terms "information intervention," and Stephanie Farrior's discussion about the legal principles related to hate speech.

Frog's Riddle and Other Draw and Tell Stories
Published in School & Library Binding by Annick Pr (December, 1990)
Authors: Richard Thompson and Patricia Quinlan
Average review score:

The best book on draw and tell
This book are 12 stories. A part can be drawn on blackboard (7). I'm found of "the ghost on Pedersen's farm", a story about ghosts! Before each story the author has drawn the drawing completely, showing with arrows the meaning of each part of final drawing. You will find in this book a story under the sign of st Valentine ("Claudette's valentines"), a story about mutual aid ("Tiki and Buko"), a story about special gift ("Willy's gift"),the story of the trees mysteriously cut ("Tree mites"), the story of mysterious numeral ("The locked box"), a story that like a famous story of Grimm ("Frog's riddle"), a story about a fall of teeth ("Hank and the tooth fairy")and also a story about a pizza delivery man ("The pizza pedaller"). The others storied are:"The horn players", "the Castaways" and "The wanderer". At the end of each story the author give the name of books related to the story. He explained how better tell and which activities to suggest to the kids after reading. A very good book indeed!

Les autres histoires s'appellent:"The horn players", "the Castaways" et "The wanderer". A la fin de chaque histoire l'auteur donne le nom d'un ou deux livres se rapportant à l'histoire, il explique comment mieux raconter, quelles activitées proposer aux enfants après la lecture... Un très bon livre!

Great twist on the genre
This is a very entertaining book! It has a great mix of the old west and the traditional ghost story.

A great book!
This is a really great book, one which I didn't want to put down until I'd finished it. The mystery is great and had me in suspense until the very end. I loved the characters, even the baddies. The whole thing was so easy to picture, thanks to really good writing. I look forward to rereading this and highly recommend it to everyone!
